The History of S4 Motorsports
S4 Motorsports’ roots are in drag racing. Our father Stan Jr., ran a 57’ Chevrolet at U.S. 30 Drag Strip in the late 1960’s. We started stock car racing in 2001, when Stan III and Paul ran a car for another car owner in the Turbo Stock division at Illiana Motor Speedway in Schererville, Indiana. In 2003, the car , a 78’ Monte Carlo, came under the ownership of Stan III and we moved into our current Hebron shop. 2003 was the beginning year of the partnership between Kaper’s Building Material and S4 Motorsports. 2003 and 2004 were growing years for S4 Motorsports as we learned the ins and outs of stock car racing. 2004 saw a number change to 59. Big changes were in store for the team for the 2005 season. We moved up to the Schepel GM Performance Parts Limited Late Model Division at Illiana Motor Speedway. Our race car for that year was a 1992 Howe chassis with a 2003 Dodge Intrepid body. 2005 was big leap for the team with a steep learning curve to learn what makes a late model stock car fast. We ended the year with a 15th place points position. 2006 brought even more changes. In the off season we purchased a Tech-One Race Cars chassis, with a 2006 Monte Carlo body, and decided to run both cars with Rick Miazga driving the second car, #93. In the last practice of April we had a rear end failure on the Dodge that kept Rick out of the car for a few weeks. On the second night of racing, the transmission broke on the Chevy. The third week, Paul was involved in the first of four or five wrecks for the year. Rick was involved in one in the first half of the year. That put the Dodge out for a few more weeks as it needed a front clip. Needless to say, it was a long season. For 2007, we decided to focus on one car. With technical assistance from Joe D’Ambrose at Tech-One Race Cars, the team’s performance improved immensely. We ended up 5th in points, were voted most improved driver, lead laps and won a heat race. Right now, the team is gearing up for 2008. |
